MOSES LAKE — Dr. Jose E. da Silva has been named Interim Dean of Student Services for Big Bend Community College. He reported to campus August 1.
Da Silva most recently served as Vice President of Student Affairs at Walla Walla Community College. Prior to that, he held the position of Director of the Bowie Campus at North Central Texas College as well as Assistant Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity at the University of North Texas.
He also filled various roles at Tallahassee Community College, including Director of Judicial Affairs and Director of Student Activities.
“We are very happy to welcome Dr. Silva to the Big Bend team. He comes to us with an excellent background and expertise leading Student Services,” said Vice President of Learning and Student Success, Dr. Bryce Humpherys. “Dr. Silva is very attuned to the needs of our students and has some great ideas about how to enhance our services to them.”
As Interim Dean of Student Services, da Silva will provide leadership and direction for the operations and activities of student services departments at Big Bend that includes Financial Aid, Academic Counseling, Outreach and Recruiting, and Admissions and Registration. The college anticipates naming a permanent Dean of Student Services by the end of the 2018-19 academic year.
“After learning about the great work that is being accomplished at Big Bend Community College, I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to join the BBCC family,” said da Silva. “I am also looking forward to working with the amazing faculty, staff and students that have created such an amazing culture of success at Big Bend.”
Da Silva holds a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas as well as both a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Florida State University.
Da Silva was also a community college student himself graduating from Tallahassee Community College in Florida.
